We represent Support Staff from Humber Polytechnic. They are part-time and full-time employees from across all campuses: North, Lakeshore, Downtown, and at the University of Guelph-Humber.

The Local Executive Committee (LEC)

The LEC is comprised of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Unit Stewards and Shop Stewards. 

The primary role of the Committee is to; inform, educate and engage Support Staff in the context of their rights and responsibilities as members of OPSEU/SEFPO and as employees of Humber College.

Local 563 has the duty to represent Support Staff from Humber College as part of the grievance process and as required by Collective Agreements.

 

"The Union is recognized as the exclusive bargaining agent for all Support Staff employees of the Colleges."

(CAAT-S Collective Agreements, Article 1.1)

OPSEU/SEFPO Membership

All Support Staff from Humber College are covered by a collective agreement and are required to complete their OPSEU/SEFPO membership form. Doing so has various benefits including: being a member in good standing, eligibility for strike pay in the event of labour interruption or strike and access to OPSEU/SEFPO Membership Discount Programs.

Job Opportunity – PT Administrative Assistant, OPSEU/SEFPO L

Title: Administrative Assistant

 Location: Humber Polytechnic, 205 Humber College Blvd, Toronto, ON, M9W 5L7
Reports To: Local President, OPSEU/SEFPO Local 563
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 24 hours per week
Salary: $24.00 per hour
Duration: 6 months with the possibility to renew

The Local is seeking an organized, personable, and dedicated individual with an interest in advocating for fairness and justice in the workplace to fill this part-time position.

 Primary Duties:

  • Greet and respond to member inquiries (phone, walk-in, email), or redirect inquiries to the appropriate individual      
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the union Local Executives
    • organizing events, liaising with Humber service providers
    • assisting the Local Treasurer on the Local budget and expenditures, and 
    • assisting the Local Secretary with meeting agendas and meeting minutes
  • Point of contact for the delivery of documents for the College and OPSEU/SEFPO
  • Update Local electronic databases
  • Contact and sign up new members of the Local
  • Maintain and update the Local’s mailing list (MailChimp), website, and social media
  • Determine office needs and order supplies and promotional materials 
  • Work on special projects as directed by Local Executives from time to time 

Perform other related duties as assigned   

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work  experience
  • Friendly and personable character, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Possesses excellent time management and organization skills
  • Technologically adept and experienced with the following software/applications:
    • Word processing and spreadsheets
    • MailChimp (asset)
    • Zoom (asset)
    • Social Media; Instagram and Facebook (asset)
    • Dropbox (asset)
  • Confidentiality, tact, diplomacy, and empathy skills is required
  • Experience with basic office management 
  • Knowledge of the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) Support Staff  Collective Agreements is an asset, or the ability to learn quickly
  • Knowledge of OPSEU/SEFPO organization, structure and policies is an asset
  • Experience in a unionized workplace is an asset
